How to review a roster export for award rates
Reviewing a roster export starts with data quality and role context, not a blind rate comparison. Match each row to a likely award and classification, compare supported adult base rates, then separately review the conditions that a roster row cannot prove.
Prepare the export
- Remove unnecessary employee personal information.
- Check that role, classification, hours, rate, and pay-period fields are present.
- Normalise classification labels without changing the source meaning.
- Flag unknown, blank, or duplicate rows for manual review.
Review each row
Use duties and the award instrument to validate a candidate classification. Compare the entered hourly rate with a current adult base minimum only when the source row and operative date are available. Keep the export review separate from any final payroll calculation.
What a roster export cannot show by itself
A row usually cannot establish coverage, breaks, shift arrangements, overtime triggers, allowances, junior or apprentice status, or an enterprise agreement. Those items need the underlying records and official guidance.
Review rates before payroll and read the AwardGuard methodology.
Verify against the FWC Modern Awards Pay Database and the relevant FWO pay guide. The applicable award always prevails.
Limitations
AwardGuard provides general information only. It does not determine award coverage or classification, and it does not provide authoritative apprentice rates or a complete calculation of penalties, loadings, allowances, overtime, breaks, or enterprise-agreement terms.
Common questions
- Can a roster export prove award compliance?
- No. A roster export can support a review, but it does not establish coverage, classification, conditions, or compliance on its own.
